In this position, the map number’s meaning is not immediately clear, and actually appears to be a qualifier for the abundance. Using your finger, you can change the orientation to match the view you saw in the field. The descriptions basically describe the birds and help you with the identification. Each of these five genera has now been eliminated and all five species are now placed in the genus Calidris, the genus that includes a number of shorebirds including Sanderling, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Red Knot and Dunlin.

This book has no pictures but is dense with information. Birding Sites Around Perth (Van Delft) covers much of the Perth area. They make fun and educational viewing on a computer desktop or MP3 player. But I don’t particularly like the interface (the design and, especially, slow response). This 6600 acre refuge is a resting and feeding area for many waterfowl species during fall migration. 25,000 ducks share this area with lots of Canada and snow geese. If you are bored of just listing the same birds all the time a new challenge would be to try to list their specific behaviors when you see them.

Identification, habits, voice, breeding, similar species. Crossley and colleagues make sure that views of all of all these perspectives are provided for each raptor. The newest of the field guides by a few years, this is the one that seems to attract the most derogatory comments, mostly about the artwork. Ridgely, Guy Tudor, Martha Argel In British Columbia I primarily use "The Sibley Guide to Birds" but have also just received for Christmas Sibley's "Guide to Birds of Western North America" which is the hands down favorite for the power to weight ratio!
